RFERL: Report Shows Bout's Arms Trafficking Network Has Been Revamped

Originally reported by RFE/RL, a new investigation by the Conflict Awareness Project alleges that the global trafficking network once led by imprisoned Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout continues to operate through former associates Sergey Denisenko and Andrei Kosolapov. The report claims the network spans Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and the United States, using a complex web of companies and aircraft leasing arrangements, with reported ties to sanctioned Iranian entities. It also highlights testimony suggesting the operation relied on cross-border financial and logistical support, underscoring how sophisticated trafficking networks can continue to adapt despite prosecutions. The findings add to ongoing calls for stronger international oversight and a more comprehensive global arms trade framework.
